Dear Drew, '92-'96

$55.00

This scrapbook became a refuge, a space where I navigated family struggles, bullying, and religious oppression. Between ages 12 and 17, during the vibrant yet tumultuous '90s, I developed an obsession with actress Drew Barrymore.

My fascination began in 1992 when a new video store opened in Brentwood, Long Island. As a wide-eyed 12-year-old, I eagerly stepped inside and spotted the VHS tape of Poison Ivy on the New Release wall. The cover captured my attention, but my connection to Drew started much earlier. I remembered a visit to a video store in 1984, when I was just four. I had been drawn to a promotional display for Firestarter, where Drew, as Charlie McGee, seemed to silently assure me, “Yes… I understand you.”

In 1992, the cover of Poison Ivy was electrifying. Drew, in a tight red mini-skirt and fire-red trench coat, exuded confidence and allure. Her bold stance ignited something within me as I flipped the video case to see her playfully tugging at a necklace. I couldn't resist; I had to watch the film.

Thus began my whirlwind crush on Drew Barrymore, a journey that intertwined fantasy with self-discovery.

Enjoy a facsimile of this relic. I am working on Part 2!
